Right way Wrong way to fast?

Having a convo and interested in your views: is it ok to blast on the internet and to everyone you speak to how you are fasting for x many days? Isn't a fast supposed to be between you and God? Am I understanding matthew 6 wrong? Thoughts?.... what is fasting to you? Is there a wrong way to fast? Is it ok to be on twitter fb myspace social outings etc.when fasting?
